Facebook: Cover Clothing

Haven't heard of Cover Clothing? Created by two Highlandpark women, Cover is for the fashionable but sun conscious girl. She loves to look beautiful and wants to stay that way...

All pieces are carefully crafted in an extremely light-weight nylon/spandex blend. The special fabric is certified UPF 50+, moisture-wicking and quick drying. It can be machine washed over and over while the sun protection never wears out. The fabric will not fade or pill.

The girls at Cover are passionate about the cause of their clothing - sun protection. They are teaming up with American Cancer Society to feature a limited edition white long sleeved T with educational hang tags. Cover will be donating 100% of the net proceeds from sales of the shirt to the American Cancer Society from May 2012 - May 2013.

Ballet Flats

At 5'11", my go-to shoes are ballet flats. It is definitely worth the splurge when it comes to your feet. I know I couldn't last without my few, but frequently worn, designer flats. From Chloe, Christian Louboutin, DFV, to Jimmy Choo - here are just a few of my top picks: (Ballet flats found at Net-A-Porter.com

FIG Finale

Haven't heard of FIG Finale, and you are afraid you missed out? Don't fret, there is still one day left! As a former intern & Associate for Suzanne Collier Showroom, and current Fashion & Social Media Writer for Katina Thornton (Katinathornton.blogspot.com), FIG Finale is no new news for me! Local boutiques and showrooms sell their designer merchandise up to 70% off! I was fortunate enough to score these skinny jeans for just $25 each. The lavender and light-blue snake skin print are both perfect and on trend for spring. However, the maroon coated denim will help me last the winter. I absolutely LOVE deals, and this is the place to receive them this weekend!

KARL

Photo from Net-A-Porter.com

NEW from the man himself, Karl Lagerfeld. A fashion icon and the man behind Chanel, Karl hit a home run with his new collection, KARL. This downtown hip collection features biker jackets, sequin leggings, blazers, liquid silver articles, and of course, his signature embellished collars. What is not to like about this new line?

Brittany's Balenciaga

Photo from Balenciaga website

My mom surprised me this winter break with this fabulous Balenciaga tote! Never did I think that I would be a proud owner of this motorcycle-inspired handbag. In a world filled with luxury designer monogram bags, Balenciaga is known for its delicate stud detail and flexible, virtually weightless leather. My mom, a Neiman’s Last Call addict, knows almost every sales associate by first name basis. When looking for the perfect Christmas gift for me, she asked what their hottest item was currently in the store. Without hesitation, with one reach behind the cash register, the sales woman proudly produced my Balenciaga tote.

Minty Fresh off the Runway

Photo from Bazaar

Mint green is the fresh new hue for this coming spring season. Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, and Christopher Kane are all fans of this refreshing shade of green. Wear the color head-to-toe or pair it with silver, gold, grey, or black articles and accessories. Afraid of color? Try it on your nails with "mint candy apple" polish by Essie. This is definitely a pastel I will add to my wardrobe!

Golden Girls

Last Sunday was the end to an exhausting rush week, and the kick off to award season. As the first award ceremony, stars had their opportunity to make a serious fashion statement at the 2012 Golden Globes. I absolutely love award season, and the anticipation of seeing what Hollywood decided to don on the red carpet. The Golden Globes set numerous trends, from nude gowns, bedazzled headbands, and subtle color blocking. My top two favorites were, hands down, Charlize Theron and Heidi Klum. Both former models, these two starlets ruled the red carpet.

Charlize Theron’s romantic, blush tone Dior gown was feminine, yet sexy. Her ‘20s inspired side-swept waves, embellished Cartier headband, and light-colored gown felt utterly adoring. Contrasting to the feminine feel of the actress’s look, the couture gown featured a plunging neckline and a thigh high slit. Charlize is definitely on trend for this upcoming season that is filled with pale hues and soft statements.

Heidi Klum looked absolutely stunning in her Calvin Klein evening dress, paired with Lorraine Schwartz statement necklace and cocktail rings. I love the understated super sexy silhouette and the effortless look of this nude hued dress. I myself am a huge fan of bold jewelry, especially if it is comprised of turquoise. When trying on her chunky necklace, Heidi was asked if she liked it, she replied without a mirror handy, “I can’t see it, but I can feel it”. There is no doubt Heidi felt spectacular!

The Leopard-Print Jean

Current/Elliott still rocks the leopard "stiletto jean" into spring. As an owner of a pair of leopard-print skinny jeans, I am thrilled to see that this trend will be invigorated in time for spring. Spring/Summer 2012 is all about femininity! This coming season will be much more delicate and lady-like, causing this animal print to go pastel. During the fall, whether you preferred the quintessential leopard color or subdued gray, there is sure to be a transition color here for you!

Brittany the Blogger

Surrounded by Hermes belts, Burberry coats, Tory Burch flats, and David Yurman bracelets, it is surprising to say you are in the middle of a college campus. As a senior at SMU, it would be hard to imagine a campus that isn’t full of designer brands, and instead casual college gear. Fashionable girls strutting to class donning the latest seemed to become the norm. As an SMU student on a budget, it would seem hard to fit in. Don’t fret though! My absolute favorite go to stores are Neiman’s (Neiman’s Last Call of course), Zara, and Nordstrom (with a little help from Nordstrom Notes). As a SMU student, and an intern for a fashion consultant, Katina Thornton, it is hard not to hold back my desire to stay on top of the trends and owning that designer must-have. Thanks to my encouraging friends, I have decided to share my knowledge on how to stay current and my fashion insights.
